Let's discover the Wondrous Diversity of the World together: 2026 Education Pilot
Education Pilot
Montessori Oostpoort
Are you noticing a hardening of classroom dialogue? Do your students seem stuck in their online bubbles, or is "us-vs-them" thinking getting in the way of empathy? The Narwhal Rainbow Alliance is launching a innovatie and science backed educational program that goes far beyond the standard biology or social studies curriculum.
Why This Pilot?
At a time when society, both nationally and internationally, is characterized by increasing polarization and hardening, the need to promote critical reflection, empathy, and understanding among young people is greater than ever. We are also seeing worrying developments, such as an increase in violence, intimidation, and discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community, more than ten percent of whom have experienced physical or sexual violence in recent years. Young queer people in the Netherlands often feel unsafe being themselves in public.
In short, acceptance is dismal. At the same time, recent violent and sexual offenses, in which organizations use the term "femicide," raise questions about the relationship between violence against women and online subcultures such as the "Manosphere." This context of societal tensions and the loss of nuance in polarized debates emphasizes the urgent need for an educational program that goes beyond mere theory or current methods.
The curriculum "The Wonderful Diversity of the World," developed by the Narwhal Rainbow Alliance, addresses this need. Based on the triangle of Me, ''the Other'', and the World, this modular program spans eight weeks and challenges students to critically examine their own identity and the influence of technology (Module 1 - Me). This allows them to actively shape a more inclusive and resilient world. The program focuses on building empathy and respect for the diversity of communities and the wonderful diversity of the world (Module 2 - The Other).

Finally, it also offers a perspective for action (Module 3 - The World), inviting students to reflect on the "Key to Acceptance." How do we break down walls between certain groups? There's certainly not just one answer to this. Students are invited to consider a method they believe will have impact.
We believe that protecting (bio)diversity is inextricably linked to our upbringing as human beings. This lesson plan is our contribution to giving the younger generation the tools to not only understand complex social challenges—from gender-related violence to acceptance of minorities—but also to actively engage with this topic themselves, thus shaping a more inclusive and resilient world together.
We hope to collaborate with you, the teachers, to create an impactful curriculum that contributes to the acceptance of a wide range of groups and your school's learning objectives.
What Makes Our Program Unique?
We believe you can only truly understand the world when you look at all its facets. Our pilot connects nature, technology, and society in surprising ways:
-
Nature as a Mirror: We dive into "Queer Nature and the Bias in Science" Did you know that diversity is the standard in the natural world? From rainbow families among albatrosses to the fluid biology of clownfish. But sometimes we have a ''coloured perspective'' stopping us to the World's colours.
-
Digital Resilience: We dissect the online bubble. How do algorithms shape your students’ worldview, and how can they take back control?
-
From Theory to Action: Students don’t end the course with a test, but with their own impact project. They become the role models of tomorrow by working on project that hold ''the key of acceptance''.
"Until we are all free, nobody is free." — This quote is the heartbeat of our method. We teach students that their own freedom is inextricably linked to the freedom of others.
